Have any of you ever just walked up to someone in the gym and said "Hey pal, I just thought you should know that what you're doing makes you look like a complete idiot."?

One day I saw a kid doing squats with on of those 4 foot long fixed "barbells". I think it was 40 pounds. He was holding the barbell with his hands, but behind his neck, not on his back, and when he squatted down, his heels came off the ground and he was obviously struggling with bad balance. I politely told him to google stronglifts (hey I had to think fast) and then I got the heck outta there...

Whenever I see people like that, I really want to help them out, correcting them, but I'm scared of coming across as arrogant and a know-it-all... but I feel bad just letting them crush themselves with horrible technique, too.

What to do... :|

If I see someone who is about to hurt himself, then yeah, unless he has an "I'm the king of badass, don't mess with me" face on, then I'll at least make the suggestion. If it is miscellaneous guys doing 25 reps of curls with the 20 pounders, then whatever, go crazy, I'm not there to teach you how to strength train, I'm there to move the biggest weights possible.

I see no reason to offer advice; there really hasn't been anyone 'about to hurt himself'... I mean, you don't see much of that in the gym, really.
People eventually come and ask you if they've seen you training and you seem knowledgeable, serious, approachable etc.
All this is just ime, of course.

If you see them in some of the vids, as I mentioned before, they actually use the (soon to be) kid to bounce off of for pushups and stuff... which is also why those squats are not okay, lol.

Studies have shown that this makes the child better able to take a hit. Therefore giving them a competitive edge over the other kids in Pee Wee football.
