Re: Bill 2013 - I will persist until I succeed

Post by Brahma Bill on Thu Dec 27, 2012 6:27 pm

Sunday 12/23/12
Had a big session planned but couldn't get my head in to it

shouldered Veronia 8 times
1.5 rounds of

5 asst. ring dips
10 H rows
15 B-bag swings with
20 med ball slams

As it turned out, I went in sat down and sacked out, didn't wake until the following morning. So maybe the body does know better.

Tonight
Went light on purpose.

WU

3 rounds
6 T-pushups 3l,3r
20 B-bag swings
10 H rows
10 B-Bag spins

Stretch

Got good and gassed. I may have said this before but, I get just as gassed with the bulgarian bag as I would doing burpees, only without the lower back pain :D

Ate too much crap the last few days. Started a wheat grass cleanse yesterday.

Hi Bill,

How did the cleanse work out for you? I'll be curious to see if it helps you with your workouts.

Good, hard workouts. I'm glad to see that you have worked in some stretching and apparently know enough to listen to your body and go light when that is what you need to do. A lot of people I know tend to go hard and heavy all the time and end up with injuries and being injury prone.

take care,

Alexandra

Wisdom comes with age I guess. The cleanse worked out fine. I'll hit the Wheat Grass hard for a week any time I've slipped up and eaten the White Death (like the holidays). Once my system alkalizes I feel pretty energetic.
I slipped on the wet deck last week, I caught myself but I wrenched my knee pretty good. I'm giving it one more day before I start training again.

Or some hindu squats. They are like nature's miracle for tweaked knees. Although at your size I would take this advice with a grain of trepidation - ease into them nice and slow.

Thanks for the encouragement. The knees fine, I've been a little run down and doing some heavy demo lately so no gas left for training...until today

WU
3 rounds with Bulgarian Bag

10 spins 5l 5r
10 power swings
10 shoulder tosses 5l 5r
10 OH press
10 frog pushups
10 squats

First time to do this circuit, had me gassed six ways to sundown

10:1 Negative chin-ups - biceps swole up like mini watermelons

Stretch

10-1 negatives ought to at least translate to one commando pull-up!

WU

5 rounds
5 Atlas pushups feet elevated
10 Horizontal rows knees bent
10 sandbag deadlifts Veronica
20 Med Ball Slams

3X100 yard OH carries - Bulgarian Bag
2x50 yard Bear hug Carries - Betty

Stretch

Almost puked on the last 50 yards of Bear hug carries (yes, it was awesome). The last two rounds I did some slow negatives and iso holds on the pushups and rows. Felt good to get the work in. The last three weeks have been weird and hit and miss, I feel like I've got my Mojo working again.

The same thing that's been going on with the rest of my training
I've been sporadic and unfocused for the last month. That all ended yesterday.
Next training session is conditioning and then I'll hit the vertical pull part of the program and be back on the pistol training bandwagon.
Don't let up! Help keep me accountable :zerk:

WU

6 rounds
400 Meter run
20 Swings

Got good and gassed. The B Bag usually works my grip pretty good anyway, but it was wet tonight so it was a real bear to hold on to. Took 60 seconds rest on the first three rounds, after that it was more like two to three, Heart was really pounding. I think I'm going to stick with this one for a bit.

The cold hard truth

Post by Brahma Bill on Mon Jan 21, 2013 8:05 pm

I noticed I've been having to suck it in a little to button my pants lately. so this morning I decided to step on the scale and check in.
284 lbs  that's an 11 lb gain since the end of November. I pulled out the tape to double check myself and I've picked up a full two inches of gut. Body fat came in at 29% using the US Navy formula.
So what have we learned here, inconsistent exercise and slack eating habits will turn you back into a Fat A** in six weeks or less. Lesson learned, again :headbang:

So this is the line in the sand. I know what to do so I'll do it. Short term goal is to get down to a svelte 260 lbs. I darn sure ought to be able to do a pull up then.

No training tonight, I've been fighting off a mild case of strep throat for the last 4 days. Just about over it.

Yesterday I got up early and walked 3 miles. I'm going to make this a habit.
Today I did half of the LCoDT deck of cards workout
Stayed inside so I Subbed Sandbag High Pulls for the pullups and subbed situps for the rollouts. Took me 35 minutes. I'll do the other half tomorrow. Still feel crappy but improving.

My burpees have gone to hell in a hatbox. Probably because I only did 1209 in 2012 as opposed to the 9000+ I did in 2011. Time to quit whining and do more Burpees.

Hi. Maybee this is mundane but what are sandbag high pulls? Is that using a pulley?
Similar to pull downs on the universal machine? Or is this doing a pull up while holding a sandbag? :?: Thanks.

That's part of the plan. I didn't do much running last year either. I'll walk for a while to get back in the habit and then start adding in some run. Meanwhile I've got a lot more 50 yrd and 400 meter runs coming up in my circuts the next couple of weeks. Once I get all the way over this crud I'll be back to blasting. This little bit of belly won't last long

Hi Bill, thanks for checking in. It's just a High Pull like you would do with a barbell only I did it with "Betty" my 80lb sandbag. On the rare occasions I train indoors I'll either do high pulls, bent over rows or isometric rows to get some pulling done. A doorway pull up bar doesn't work for me because I'm as big as the door. :D

Sorry but I still don't get what a high pull is. Are you talking about an upright row motion?
I'm guessing that's what you mean. IS this correct? Thanks.

Yes and the high pull is more explosive. They get me gassed, nice to have in a circuit or a deck of cards.

Feeling pretty good today so I decide to Cowboy Up and train outside in the cold and snow.

WU

10 min AMRAP SB shouldering Veronica 30 new PR by 3 reps.

5 Rounds with the Bulgarian Bag
10 Spins 5l/5r
10 Swings
10 OHP

Stretch

Short but effective. Pretty Stoked about getting 30 with the sandbag. 50 can't be far off.
Going to work the mess out of pulls and pistols tomorrow.

WU

TVT
10 minutes 5 reps Asst. Commando Pullups
went to 20 secs rest at 5:08 and 30 Sec rest at 7:52.
didn't mark total reps as I went along but it felt like a shiton.

10 minutes 3 reps EL Asst. Pistols (standing on box and dangling non working leg)
had to stop at 6:26 right leg felt awesome but apparently my left knee hasn't healed up all the way yet (I know, I know, Hindu Squats)

Loaded Carry

Back carry - Betty (80#) - 1870 yards non stop (that's a shade over a mile isn't it)

Stretch

Notes: I haven't had any pain in the knee at all until tonight. Very disappointing. I'm going to lay off the pistols and do more hindu squats for a bit. Had originally planned to do the 400 meter run/20 swings combo but the knee wasn't liking the run either, so I subbed in the loaded carry.

Weighed this morning. I've dropped 5 lbs and an inch in the last week.

I don't have a dog in that fight. It would be cool to see Ray Lewis go out big. Mike can probably get you some fresh Deer Antler Velvet :D
