Current strongest man alive

Post by Journeyman on Mon Dec 31, 2012 2:42 pm

Seeing Misha Koklyaev's new PL total (2149 raw) made me think he could logically be considered for the #1 spot right now. His super total--combined weightlifting and powerlifting total, is 3142 right now which I think is the highest ever if you only count raw PL. He's also one of the best overhead lifters in strongman, though Zydrunas Savickas is still the best overhead overall.

Benni Magnusson still has the highest raw deadlift (1015, and also an ungodly number of reps with 575) and is also a top strongman competitor, though not quite as good as koklyaev.

Then there's Zydrunas Savickas... pulls 430kg + (about 950) though with straps.

His big deal is that he's the strongest overhead lifter of all time, though. Still holds all the axle/log records in pro strongman.

I suppose the 'right answer' is that Savickas is still the strongest (current WSM champ as well as most wins of anyone in Arnold Strongman, and the best competition record of any pro strongman) as well as being the best overhead presser. Benni is the best deadlifter and Koklyaev is the most well balanced/athletic--elite level in PL, OL and SM.
If we're talking 'strongest of all time' I think Savickas would still be #1, followed by Kazmeier, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, thought this could be a fun topic. Feel free to start a pound for pound/best all-rounder discussion as well, that's more debatable.
