Liver Detox

Post by Brahma Bill on Tue Jan 01, 2013 6:20 pm

would've posted this earlier but we've had a lot of family over today.

For those of you who over indulged last night, Dandelion root tea and Milk thistle tea are excellent liver detoxifiers. I would avoid the Traditional Medicinals brand of Dandelion tea if you can, only becuase it tastes particularly nasty.

A good liver cleanser is fresh lime juice, egg yolk, and olive oil.

The dandelion greens I had tasted like cooked apples. They were so good it makes me wonder why more people don't eat them.

Yes they are so versatile! As a raw green, very bitter but cooked they are mild and yes a little sweet.
Definitely an underrated ingredient, and if you like to garden what could be easier to grow or cultivate (in pots because the seed stock will spread just like wild dandelion weeds).

I have them growing wild all over my little piece of land. I don't use pesticides or chemicals so they are good to eat!
Did you know- you can eat every part of the dandelion plant?
Milk Thistles also grow everywhere here and it's another plant you can eat. Seeds, leaves (minus the stickers :) ), and roots it's all good!

I have heard that you can make a wine from the flower heads! I have not had the pleasure. Can you eat the flower heads in salads similar to nasturtiums you think? I might try it. I'm notorious for eating stuff out in the wild. It's a wonder I'm not dead yet (never mushrooms or interesting looking berries), but anything else that I can recognize I will bite it. Got that from my dad.
