7 hours later

Post by itlives on Fri Jan 11, 2013 7:26 pm

So, I go to my favorite greasy spoon this AM with the wife.
Wife- turkey club please.
Me - Sausage omelet, onions. bell pepper, mushrooms, spinach, pepper jack cheese and grits and wheat toast

Fast forward 1 hour- Stomach kind of queasy
Bear in mind, I have a cast iron stomach, I can eat almost anything with no ill effects

A couple of minutes later... it begins.
You know what I mean. And it's terrible. Terrible in every sort of way.
Put the police tape up and don't go in there..

A few bouts later and what seems like an eternity. I think it's over. It's not...
I pray often. This is something I don't normally have to pray about, but, today is different.
A little time goes by and the prayer is answered. it IS finally over.

Now, I am weak, very weak. No electrolytes. I leave work and get some - ala coconut water.
Get some kefir. I'm getting better, but after the TMK Deck last night and the cramps today, I think my core has had all it wants of any kind of movement.

Moral- EAT AT HOME, Y'ALL!
Just had to share- sorry if anyone else has ever had food poisoning. I can now say "I feel your pain".

Years ago, Caesar salad, because I had left the dressing out on the counter for two days in a row.  :pale:

Had food poisoning once from some bad sausage. I wouldn't wish that one anyone! Glad you're finally feeling better.

That's why I almost never eat outside.
But interestingly, all food poisonings I have experienced was from eating home food.
That was my own fault though, Mom used to roll sandwiches for me to carry in my backpack to school, to eat as breakfast on the way, they contained ground beef, and I didn't ate them until noon, most of the times they got spoiled in hot weather, and gave me serious poisonings.

It's interesting that you should say that. Because ever since a couple years ago, I have begun the practice of making my lunches for work, which include anything from scrambled eggs to chicken, and I simply leave it in my lunch bag, which is in my back pack. I don't even bother with the fridge anymore, if there happens to be one where I have been working. And the time above I mentioned is still the only time I can ever remember getting food poisoning. Mind you I don't leave my food exposed to sunlight or anything like that. Always in the shade.

I could see where Sqauts food would go bad quickly in the heat of Iran.
Canada is not so hot.
I always took my lunch to school when I was a kid. Usually bologna, never had a problem.
My stomach is still messed up a bit. I have to replenish the good flora now.
Kefir and some fermented cabbage is my choice for that.

Make no mistake, I've done what I described above in 110+ weather and also when I lived in Florida.

I haven't had a problem. It seems like 12+ hours is not really a problem. Or I have an iron stomach.

The flu is going around too. Over boiling a few spoons of rice in water and drinking the cloudy water, helps sometimes if you are still queasy. Kefir works too. Feel better.

Dave.cyco I'll admit I do the same thing, but it's usually just left in my insulated lunch bag (not really insulated but it has a foil interlining typical of cold packs) in an air conditioned office so I don't worry about it too much. Food safety police would still frown on it.

I got food poisoning once from a Phillycheesteak. A horrible, horrible, almost hallucinatory experience, and one other time from Diner food, but never anything I've prepared before. When I was younger, my parents were always renovating something including the kitchen so I think we all got pretty good at juggling limited fridge capabilities.

I love eating out, but I'm so selective about food quality there are few places I patronize.

Isn't it called greasy spoon for a reason? Glad you're better now. Had almost the same problem by the end of 2012. Don't know, what caused it. My weight dropped significantly during a few days and stayed quite low (or lower as normally) for about two weeks.
