Allow myself to introduce...myself!

Post by randy618 on Wed Jan 16, 2013 11:11 pm

I know, it's an old gag, but still funny to hear and read.

Anyways, I'm a 35/M, no hypertension, non-diabetic, non smoker and occasional alcoholic beverage drinker (once a month or so).

Here are some vital signs:
Height: 5'6" Weight: 204lb, Resting HR: 80s

My long-term (read: life-long) goals are as follows, in order of priority:
1. Improve health (get my resting HR down to sub 60s eventually)
2. Fat Loss (currently on low carb, paleo/keto)
3. Strength and flexibility (convict conditioning, yoga)
4. Endurance (need to do more cardio)

What I'm doing now: I just started Convict Conditioning this past Monday (The 'New Blood' program) from scratch. I made sure to read the entire book cover to cover before starting, to understand what I'm getting into.

I'm here to learn!

Welcome Randy.

Those are some good healthy goals.

Good choice CC. There are a few of us here who have followed the program.

I still work the big 6. Will be good to see how you progress.

Welcome Randy 8)

Instead of cardio, HIIT or Tabata would work better and a lot quicker!
My 2 cents....

I don't even like that word, it's so prone to misconceptions and missed perceptions. CARDIO. Ugh. Sorry Greek, but you know it's true. Too many people's "cardio" is useless.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I agree. "Cardio" and its many monotonous forms (jogging on a treadmill/elliptical machine/stationary bike) will not be part of my routine. HIIT and Tabata training sessions are far more interesting and effective.

As for CC, today was supposed to be Day 2, but I can't seem to get in a proper shoulderstand on my own, (big belly and weak core, also need to develop proprioception) so I'll need to find a spotter and try again tomorrow. The vertical pulls went well, and I should be at horizontal pulls in no time. Time to start a training log!

What's up Randy? Your goal #2 is sadly, mostly achieved in the kitchen. I do a ton of 'real' cardio and it's a supreme **** to lose any weight. But don't be so quick to shelve those gym machines, if you push yourself they will still kick your ass and burn a ton of calories. But yeah, most people don't break a sweat on them and those people piss me off moreso than Dave. I mean more than they piss him off. ;)
