Hi - I'm new to this forum and looking for powerlifting training tips

Post by landrews on Thu Jan 17, 2013 11:03 am

I am 45 y old, female, fit and looking to get into powerlifting. I have a newly acquired YMCA membership with my hubby, and hopefully I can make a meet in Ontario sometime this year if I train - and yes I am a very beginner, but with lots of drive and determination. I've seen other "masters" female profiles online, and believe I can get there, and keep going.
I eat low carb high protein/basically Gluten Free...Paleo diet
weigh 151
height 5'4"
so I am not sure what category I fit into.
I am looking for training tips, and best books with progressive training schedules.
Thanks for letting me tap into your wealth of info folks! Have an awesome day.

Welcome landrews!

There's a few folks in here that can help. I would look at some of the postings Journeyman has or just PM him. He is a wealth of information and rarely forgets anything he reads!

Now that you've introduced yourself, start a workout log so we can learn from you!

Laurel, nice to see you got my PM on the "other" forum. Welcome here and definitely do as Mike suggested and start a training log. :)

landrews--how long have you been training, what are your best lifts, what have your past training plans looked like, what form of squat/DL/bench do you use...? It'll be easier to offer some useful advice if we have specifics!

Thanks!
Great advice. I don't know if I can do a handstand - I'll practice at home until I don't look absolutely uncoordinated. I'll create a training log and wait for feedback! Totally exciting!
