Earning ranks

Post by Dave on Sat Feb 02, 2013 8:30 am

Okay, here's what I think. Aside from the rank hierarchy of novice, journeyman, elite, etc., if someone is to have a special rank, it should be suggested for them by another member of the community, and I think it should in some way be relevant to their personality, training style, abilities, etc. I also think that something should be done specifically to earn the rank.

Jman has earned himself a rank for clearly obvious reasons, and Rixstar nominated him for one (which gave me the idea in the first place, thanks Rix).

What about someone who requests it? Should it just be given (even though this runs the risk of everyone getting one and it losing the uniqueness), or should there be some rite associated with earning it, like a mandatory workout or something else?

Voting is multiple choice, you can take your votes back if you change your mind. Please don't vote for mutually exclusives.

By the way, Jman, if you don't like your rank, just say the word and it can be removed/modified.

You mean that the whole community has to agree to the nomination?

Have to earn it after you request it

Yeah those are the two i mean, yeah i think the community as a whole should have a say, like if you request it, you should earn it and everyone should agree also everyone should say what someone is and nominate eachother, so yeah :idea2: that is the three options :)

What are the special ranks? Shouldn't there be a list of them?

I voted nominated/earned.

Nobody should ever request a special ranking

It's like saying "I think I should be valedictorian". Somebody agrees and you get it?

Nothing earned, nothing given.

I guess we need a "Commisioner of Ranks Bestower".

He/she would have to be able to come up with the bestest ranks names :face:

I nominate myself for-

Dang, I can't think of a good one right now that doesn't include a banned word.
Later....

I can't vote because I can't decide really.
But have an opinion about the ranks itself:
Is multiple ranks possible? or each user is only given one?
The rank icon/banner looks too big and ugly. this will get worse if there be more than one rank coming IMO.

Sorry for off-topic

Just a personal rank for everyone who deserves one based on their personality or knowledge or training

Personally I see requesting a rank as pointless, I prefer others (multiple people) suggest the rank for me, I will appreciate that more than a self appointed rank (requesting ranks reminds me of dictators giving all colorful ranks to themselves).

But the poll's options are beyond my English, don't know exactly which option fits with my opinion.

Thats what the nominated option is for, people suggest it if you stand out for a reason and then you obtain that rank, like J-Man just knows everything haha so he is a Encyclopedia and Dave is a tall lanky guy so he gets lanky fellow.

Through force of argument I have changed my vote and eliminated my vote for getting a rank that you requested. Squatty, you should vote for the second option, because that is the one you have basically stated your support for in your posts.

It looks like nomination is the way to go. Any time you want to nominate someone, just start a new thread in the General Discussion section I think.

P.S. Jman, did you decipher the meaning of your Latin rank motto? I made it pretty simple.

Each person who is being nominated should have his or her own thread to keep the discussion organized and relevant to that particular case.
