Wearing suspenders

Post by squatty on Mon Feb 18, 2013 9:20 am

Do people consider you weird, and stare at you constantly everywhere if you wear suspenders, in your countries?
Recently I replaced my belt with broadband solid jet black fabric suspenders, because belts always made digestion/dumping problems for me, and since I switched parties, I haven't had any digestion problems anymore.
The only problem is these people looking weird at me.

Squatty, I made the switch to suspenders myself, but only for a brief time. I would have stuck with it longer, except that the suspenders I found were simply not of good quality.

I have since altered my strategy to wearing exercise pants basically everywhere I go, in the interest of full mobility at all times. Except if I have to do construction or some other rough work I wear work overalls (which are great because they have built in suspenders!), and on certain types of occasions I wear a suit, which necessitates a belt.

But I'll probably give suspenders a go again, I just need to keep my eyes open for a good pair.

Like Dave, I like pants with elastic in the waistband.
I never thought about a belt maybe causing digestion problems. Good point.

Actually my pants have a string in the waistband. But I'm able to choose how tightly I want to tie it. A belt just never seems to give the right retention without discomfort though.

Imagine a salesman who refuses to shower or shave.

Can he make a sale living like that? Maybe. But it's going to be an uphill battle.

Presentation matters.

People are giving you weird looks because you're being perceived negatively.

I would recommend losing the suspenders, and finding a proper fitting belt.

I'm not gonna be a salesman, and besides, when you're big enough you have the right to wear anything you like.
I'm the biggest guy at school, to the scrawny kids there I look like a buff lumberjack when wearing suspenders and jeans, they don't stare (at least I haven't seen them staring).
But at the streets that's another story, I'm not anywhere near big enough yet to be safe from the stares.
Looks like I just found another reason to get big eh?

Seems like being big is a big plus over there.
So, if you're big, you don't have to prove yourself?
Around here, being big means you HAVE to prove yourself.
Nobody wears suspenders here.

I occasionally see someone wearing suspenders around here, but it's very rare. Usually they tend to be obese guys with beards, I have no idea why.

Up in Canada if you drive a pickup in the winter you put something heavy, like shipping palettes (or oak barrels), in the back of your pick-up so as not to lose rear traction in the snow... And you put on a belly and a beard to stay warm. :face:

I plan to grow a beard too (currently have a mustache, because I don't have enough facial hair for a beard yet, but that will happen soon, we're late bloomers).
My brothers were able to grow complete beards after passing 27yo.
I'm 24 now, couldn't grow even a mustache 6 months ago, until recently I got able to grow some hair above the lips. unfortunately unlike my scalp hair, it is somewhat blondish and thus not much visible and opaque. I think a little natural dye will fix it and give it more visibility.
I want a mustache like Tom Selleck's. but I have one like Flynn's.
And I want to be as big and as fit as possible, wearing suspenders, like a proud big daddy would.

Inca, what are you doing posting here? I thought you were restricted to your log until after Lent...

Squatty, all that sounds great! Hilarious in a totally off the wall but super manly way. Go for it! :bosco:

You know what I say? Screw 'em and wear whatever makes you feel good.

When I was 18 I was deep into the punk style. Teared up clothes, mohawk, a big ass dog chain wrapped around my neck.

All this while sporting an impressive 54 Kg (that's 119lbs), and trust me, my foolish younger self was looking for trouble, but (almost) never gotten into any.
It's all about the attitude :)

I know, right? It was cool when I drove through Kentucky to see all the big bourbon names at the head of their entrances to their plants!

Do I remember right, is Makers Mark made there. too? When I drank bourbon, that's the one I liked.

Yep, in Loretto, KY, just outside of Bardstown. A bunch of distilleries down there. And lots of drunk fat guys with suspenders or overalls.
