Our real names

Post by Dave on Sun Feb 24, 2013 2:26 pm

Between BWC, Facebook and Private Messages, many of us know each other by our real names.  Also, any time a member has stated their own first name on the forums, I understand that as giving permission to use it.  Thinking of this reminded me that I once used a person's name who did not want it published for all the internet to see.

So if everyone here who does not want their first name to be revealed on the public forums could say so in this thread, then you'll help me and others avoid any slip ups.

Thanks.

I don't do anything extreme, offending or forbidden, so I can show my face and tell my name, can't I.
Actually I really prefer seeing the faces off the ppl I'm communicating with. If you do not like it and prefer a proxy as avatar, no prob.

My name is Julian and you can call me Julian, Karotte, I_K or anything different as long as I recognize that you mean me. And 'Karotte', for those of you who don't know, comes from my red hair.
Where the 'Instant' comes from I don't remember. I think it was a nickname I got in Day of Defeat a few years age
Kept the name since then.

My name is Joseph Michael. I go by Mike, please use it.

The story behind "itlives" -
I was building a 1958 VW beetle that should have been crushed about ten years before I got it. 3 years later with a frame change and literally the bottom 6" inches of the car replaced, it came .....you guessed it, ALIVE.
Like in the original Frankenstein movie, I said "it's alive" and itlives!
I was just getting on computers back then and thinking of a screen name no one else had, and itlives came to me. I have the same screen name on every site I'm on. I'll see if I can find a couple of before and after pics of "Frankenbeetle"

You had a old bug? I love those things, jealous of the older generation for their cars. I love how they use to make Beatles into drag cars by putting a Porsche engine in.

Real Names? I'm okay with that.

Post by 98poundweakling on Sun Feb 24, 2013 8:26 pm

Since I haven't properly introduced myself anywhere on this forum, I'll at least say my name and welcome anyone to use it.

My name is Fr. Boniface. That's my name I received at my monastic tonsure. (Greek Orthodox monk here - I was named after St. Boniface of Crediton in Devonshire. He was a missionary to Hesse and martyred in 754). That is my first and only name.

Folks also call me Fr. Bon or just Bon (that's half of a bonbon), which are fine with me. I'm not too keen on Bony Face, but Bones is okay, both of which do happen to fit. That's life with a wasting disease! I count my blessings.

I'm Micah, use it if you want, but if you mention it anywhere it's going to take some time to realize you're talking about me.

Not quite as spectacular as St. Boniface, but I was named after the minor prophet. I also don't run around naked while preaching, at least not that I've been told...

Whenever we finally meet up, I'm still calling you Squatty.

Cheesedog, you've been SO mysterious all this time, and I've gotten so used to calling you Cheesedog, that I actually have to remind myself to call you Rich when I PM you or email you. Sometimes on Facebook I look at your page and I think, "Who the heck is that and how did I become friends with him."

Haha, just kidding about that last part. But you are a pretty mysterious figure - it adds to the mystique.

Phil here. the PT are my initials. I use that screenname or one similar to it all over the Net and people often guess "personal trainer?" Nothing against high quality, well educated, REAL personal trainers, but for the most part, it's no compliment.

And I don't know...sometimes it's better to let a lifting Cheesedog lie. :)

Real name Andrew. Go for ya life. Probably a bit better than typing 'ajnslng' anyway.

To quote Vinnie Jones in Snatch: "You can call me Susan if it makes you happy."
Call me Andrew, Andy or AJ...or whatever else. I draw the line at Randy Andy though. *Sigh* The day kids at school realised 'randy' rhymed with 'Andy'...

Well, I've gone a long time without letting my name loose; on purpose most of the time. However, since I am facebook friends with a bunch of this lot, I'll divulge.

My name is Dylan. My mom was inspired to name me such after listening to Bob Dylan and reading Dylan Thomas.
