Inducing the Return of Fatman

Post by Dave on Tue Feb 26, 2013 5:00 am

Fatman's training blog is here: http://heavyasareallyheavything.blogspot.ca/

I've posted a couple invitations for him to join us. If you also would enjoy his company here, why not drop by his blog and leave a comment too? :D

I have a "cult"-ish feeling toward old BWC members, some of them I never had the opportunity to be present while they were posting, and just did read their posts long after they became inactive.
Thier avatars are cultish too to me.
Guys like fatman, evilone, dominator, that guy with the winged horse avatar called oilnek?? and many many others...

I remember dominator - that was the time I've been on bwc just lookin around for nearly a year without ever posting anything :D

Wasn't he banned or something because he used 'inappropriate' language ? :D

Re: Inducing the Return of Fatman

No idea. I was not around when Dominator350 and Olinek stopped posting. However, they were part of the reason I stopped posting in the first place. To make a long story short, at the time I had recently a profound Christian conversion and the way I interacted with the community changed somewhat abruptly. I became noticeably more preachy (mind you I had ALWAYS done my best to try and be a positive moral influence), but I kept it to my own training log.

Nevertheless these two guys didn't like what I was writing in my log and, along with a few others, proceeded to do all they could to ridicule and insult me for my newfound beliefs, posting insults against both me and my religion in my own training log. I was originally a part of BWC because I enjoyed the community, but that all changed in a hurry at that time.

That's partly the reason I started the "Deep Thoughts" forum, it's a place where discussions of a religious, or other controversial, nature can go and members need not be exposed to them, unless they specifically ask for access.

Anyway, after living in the real world for several years with my new worldview, I've become more conservative in my application of zeal. Likewise, they are both welcome here if they have equally matured, as would be seen by their respect for and adherence to the terms of membership that I wrote in the hopes of keeping PhysicalCulture inviting and enjoyable for anyone and everyone (and which are very similar to the terms of membership for most forums).

As a side note: Fatman and EvilOne are two guys who, though I realize they don't hold my beliefs, and yes they thought I was too preachy, nevertheless acted very admirably during that particular conflict. I'd be honoured to have either one of them join us again.

Didn't know about that. I don't like when people start to insult and ridicule the beliefs of others. My view of life in general is : Everybody may think/do/preach whatever he likes as long as he isn't bothering me with it ( in terms of actively trying to convert/change me and my beliefs or trying to insult and ridicule my beliefs). People should be open-minded - doesn't mean you have to like other beliefs...just accept that there are people think differently. For example I'm 'oficially' catholic, but actually I got a agnostic point of view concerning belief etc, nevertheless I got no problem with people thinking differently (atheists, catholics, moslems, whatever...doesn#t matter).

Re: Inducing the Return of Fatman

I think we agree for the most part. Specifically, the way I see it is this: I believe what I believe because I think it is true, but not everyone believes what I believe, so who am I that they should convert because of me? All I can do is encourage what I believe is positive behaviour and discourage what I believe is negative behaviour, either by word or by example.

And of course I believe there are some things that are basically universally recognized as negative behaviour (like lying, stealing, murder, cheating on a spouse, etc., or encouraging any of these things), which I believe can be met with greater opposition, just as there are things that are universally recognized as positive behaviour (such as giving to others, working hard, encouraging the discouraged, etc.), which I believe should be met with greater praise.

Almost my entire base of training knowledge when I started out from 2008-2009 was from those four guys. No 'cult' feeling, the opposite in fact... all of us hated the BWC admin, the way he did things etc. and all of them eventually left the forum because of that.

Whoa, I was going to start a "hey you guys" thread here, but Dave's already beat me to it. Well, minus the Sloth voice.

It's great to see everyone in the same place again and training harder than ever. I wasn't aware of the issues with the old forum and that pretty much everyone migrated, that's too bad. Did the site go bust, or did y'all just decide to create your own forum?

I stopped posting there because my training moved further and further away from bodyweight exercises   I thought it was a great forum. What Journeyman said, there was zero cult attitude (the admins were very tolerant of different training philosophies) and very rarely did people get banned. And we had an Ironwolverine and a skateboarding ninja Blackwater mercenary who could overhead press 500 lbs. for reps and made fetishist pornographic movies (in which he wore a weighted vest), all while going to med school - top that if you can!

I never had a disagreement with the admins, did things get really bad later on?

Anyway, great seeing all of you here. Would be cool to see others from the old crew - Oli, EO and Dom, rickvv, everyone else seems to be around. I'm still logging my training on the Blogspot site, but will be troll... posting here too. :trolldance:

Basically he/she/it was an absentee admin, always on vacation, slow to answer any emails from the mods or the community asking for help of any kind. It took me a good two or three months of continual PMs and emails until he (Zaichik???) finally promoted Cheesedog and me to Super Moderators so we could clean up the ever present spam (remember how regular mods had no powers at all :suspect: ).

But somehow it came to a head where we were getting literally hundreds of new spam threads in a day or two and between Cheesedog, Jman and myself we still couldn't keep up. I asked the admin to take action, and he did, but he messed it up royally. What happened was it became impossible for anyone to post to the board or even join it and it was like that for nearly a whole two months. If you look at it now, it is a ghost town.

Fortunately we had seen the signs of this coming and had discussed alternatives, and since I had time, I set up this free forum, used my Super Mod powers to contact everyone I could think of from BWC and invite them here, and boom here we are, not missing a beat.

That's obviously false because no such movie exists :geek:

Wow eh... People remember me and my training. I swear I almost shed a tear when I read this thread. Touching, I must say.

And I'm sorry for all the times I ripped into you, Dave. Perhaps I simply envy your... absolutism in your beliefs. It takes a strong character to not be shook from his or her path. So... props to you for that.

Aw heck yeah!
Welcome back man, and good on you for reaching out; I hope there won't be any trouble for the two of you this time cause seriously, you're both some of the coolest members we've had on these boards over the past 5 years or so.
Do an intro/PR thread and start up a log

Also, do you have a facebook? There's a facebook group that a few of us post on, generally we just spam it with useful links--some really good stuff.
