What are your stats?

Post by itlives on Thu Feb 28, 2013 12:31 pm

From a conversation in the hang challenge. So we know a little more about each other. I think this could help in parsing answers to asked questions.
If you want, post these four things-

Weight (lb.s please- I can't relate to metric)
Target weight
Height
Age

Me-
167 lb.s
175 lb.s

I think it would be helpful and nice if everyone put this info into his or her sig, and update his or her profile with date of birth so that age shows up under the avatar (and updates automatically).

I was thinking about putting results in my sig a while ago, but thought it would be too much to include DL's, bench, and CC on it.

Edit: added them! Would be interesting to see everyone's result too.

At this point I'm just gonna continue with the 'regular' high protein, high everything diet and, if I do the IPA meet in June I guess I'll be able to make the 148 class without cutting anything, which would be nice.
Also, as I said someplace else, this makes the triple bodyweight pull a bit more achievable... looking on the brightside here.
I plan on doing much more direct hypertrophy-style training in the fall anyway.

I weighed myself today and discovered I am about 7 pounds heavier than last time I weight, even despite not eating a very large amount (though I've been drinking milk like it's going out of style). This is not too surprising, as I can see it in the mirror, but you know how it is... we always see the skinny (or fat) guy that we started out as.

My goals are to get whatever high frequency/high volume training has to offer. Hopefully some muscle.

If this doesn't work out for me, you'll see a not so handsome/not so uggly guy wh*ring himself for cheap steroids on a street-corner.

Hold up a sec friend. You have your ends and means mixed up. Do you want muscle, or do you want to do high frequency/high volume training? I'm not saying you can't have both, but if putting on muscle is your goal (ends), then the training should only be the means, and not a goal in itself. If your only goal is "to get whatever high frequency/high volume training has to offer" (which is pretty vague), then you are, in my opinion, setting yourself up for frustration and disappointment. Don't make training style or frequency a goal, but make the goal dictate training style and frequency.

And make no mistake, you WILL have to change up your training eventually, because as solid as any routine may be, it will only work for so long, until your body adapts, at which point you'll need to change it up to promote further adaptation.

I recommend you read this: http://www.project-iron.com/2012/12/are-your-goals-smart.html

I hate to answer a question with a question, but how would you go about gaining muscle mass?
I'm not trying to be a smart ass, just curious as to what school of though you follow in these times of gvt vs hit vs positive thinking for gains.

To clarify, I put the work first, and the positive effects second.
I like to think of it this way: If I did manual labor for a living my goal would be gettin' paid. But look at the people that have started in manual labor jobs and gained fitness that baffles today's gym-goer's.

Just a pointless rant.
Some people need goals, but mine just drive me crazy trying to figure them out.

Pick up something then put it back down a lot of times. If you can do that, then it is too easy. You need to pick up something that you cannot pick up a lot of times, and do it till you can't. Repeat every other day.

Seriously, there are tons of programs on the web. If you don't have access to ANY weights, you will have to make your BWE more difficult.

Some people need goals, but mine just drive me crazy trying to figure them out.

I work as a laborer and i do manual labor and my new job is labor, my whole family are/have been manual workers, all it really gives you is a good hard work ethic and an iron grip. Its probly a lot more factors than just starting in the labor side, like my fam are all "bodybuilders" some pro and some just tank tops, so they go to work, then have nothing to do after work so they go gym because thats all they know. but i wont get all political as i do ramble a lot...

To answer your question tho, i think everyone here will agree with me as they/you all taught me this, it is Progressive Overloading if you can only do 20 push ups, then next time do 22, 24, 26, then do diamond push ups, hip thrusts, continuously make the exercise harder and you will progress and over load your muscles which will cause them to grow. Theory of adaption too! If im wrong anyone, feel free to correct me.

Well, I ain't cleaning 225lbs (pretty sick btw) so I'm no expert.

To be honest I don't even have a solid program anymore, just kinda feeling like one of those composers who goes bonkers in their later years.
Not that I dislike the insanity.

To be honest I don't even have a solid program anymore, just kinda feeling like one of those composers who goes bonkers in their later years.
Not that I dislike the insanity.

Sorry bout' hijacking this thread. So what is with all the tall guys? I'm like a bloody hobbit over here! I swear, the shortest guy is 5'10. darn leggy freaks.

I'm 5'8''. And ~140.
Gaining mass comes with
-getting stronger (body has to adapt in some way to increased weight)
-eating/resting more (body has time to recover and the material to recover and improve by adding size)
-Fatiguing the body more during training (body is more induced to grow)

For you, I'd say you'd definitely be an 'expert' if you could squat clean 300 pounds. Jussayin'. Shoot for big numbers, always.
