Pushups, elbows close to body

Post by andre66 on Fri Mar 08, 2013 7:32 pm

I've just started doing CC and was wondering about the elbows. In close to the body or let them go where they want?
Thanks

Close to body is most efficient. It's how I do them and how I recommend doing them.

No problem. That way is better on the shoulders, rather than letting the arms flare out to the sides. Also, keep your forearms perpendicular to the ground to keep the elbows free from strain.

I put my thumbs about mid-chest and always keep my elbow facing my ankles no matter how far my hands are from my body.

X2!

Yep, and the closer you get to the end of the set, the more your elbows tend to point outwards. When this happens I pause a few seconds at the fully extended position, concentrate on proper form and try to keep the elbows close.

Afterwards I also feel better than after a set with flared arms

I think I good way to find what's most natural to yourself is to pretend your pushing some one away and note what arms look like. That generally gives my elbows a good position that is comfortable. Also my elbows tend to be fairly close to my body as a result and and when I do a push up I feel im getting the most out of it this way. Works for me. Give it a try.
