Electric scale

Post by Black. on Sat Mar 16, 2013 8:29 am

Some time ago I bought an electric scale.
It takes readings of your weight, body fat, water ratio, bone mass, muscle ratio and calorie requirements.
I'm not so sure about that. What do you think?

The scale is exactly like this:

I don't understand the tech, but I don't see how it could read all those things.

I've never heard of that model, but at least for body fat I've been told those thing can be pretty inaccurate.

it would be worth it to get a rough estimate of where your at, may not be 100% accurate so dont swear by it, just use it to keep a track of progress and stuff :)

I have one I bought around 4 years ago, mainly for determining weight loss after runs so I could replenish enough.

It is SUPPOSED to send an electrical current through the body to determine fat mass because it has a different density and can be measured. Last I checked, this is grossly inaccurate. For example, my scale just gave me the following stats:

Weight: 147.6#
Fat: 4.8%
Water: 64.8%

The weight and water both make sense, I'm still pretty dehydrated from my run yesterday and haven't replenished properly. The fat percentage I'm not sure how accurate it is since I haven't been measured with calipers before. When I was down at 123# I got it to say as low as 3.0%, yet the only difference between then and now is the weight gain. I would say I'm closer to 7% +- 1% for a margin of error.

Rix beat me to linking wikipedia. :headbang:
