Oh dear.
I hadn't seen that (the original) until recently. It's scarring.

I don't remember gyms being so dark and steamy back then. I do remember the dorky clothes though.

The sauna steam + rape cave lighting + sex offender mustache kinda bring the whole thing together.

Ugly-ass push presses with 250, incline curling 100s, and arnold stepping over ed corney on the way to do (surprisingly light) squats....

In the 1980s, those were known simply as "lighting" and "mustache".

Also interesting how loose of a form those old-school guys employed on many exercises. Arnold's rows, both seated and t-bar, look a lot worse than most "Pendlay row form critique" videos one finds on YouTube, the Hulk does half-ROM push-presses, and not a single squat is done anywhere near parallel, not even the warmup sets with what looks like 135 pounds.

The stance is extremely close, though, so I don't think it was possible to go any deeper. Sure as h*** can't argue with the results, either way. So much for the International Federation of Internet Lifting Judges.

Yeah their form was majorly crap. Arnold had pretty long legs and never competed as a powerlifter so I guess he just put his heels up on a board and did tons of 2/3 squats. He barely squatted more than he benched anyhow, clearly didn't care about the ol' pins nearly as much....
If you look at the absurd volume they were using, maybe they started off strict and just started doing a bunch of cheat/partial reps on the later sets. 5x12 with straight weight for 6 different exercises (didn't he say he did like 50 work sets for 'shoulders'?) would've limited the weight a ton unless you did a bunch of ugly cheat style lifts towards the end....

Last night I watched the opening 15 minutes or so of Hercules in New York. Arnold's first movie, when he was in his 20s. He barely manages to get through his lines, fights a ship full of sailors, turns over a cab and rips his shirt off at every opportunity. The legs remain covered throughout (this was early on in his career).

Later on he fights a man in bear costume and steals a hot dog cart ("chariot"). Anyone who hasn't seen this movie needs to drop whatever they're doing and watch it NOW.

The original cut of Hercules apparently had Arnold's voice dubbed but once he became very famous they restored the soundtrack to include his voice.

I have no reason to question the validity of this video, and the guy has a confirmed bench press of 301 kilos in paralympic weightlifting.

No elbow or wrist wraps, bench shirt, hand-off... or legs.

6 lbs. away from the official raw world record.

Saw that. Here's a better vid:

I wonder if the no-legs thing is a net gain or loss for him. Less stability and base, obviously, but he can have a much bigger upperbody that everyone else in his weight class... of course, he's a superheavy anyway....

I think that Spoto is still the strongest bencher with the most potential around today. Maybe ever.

And, this is brutal. It looks pretty ungrooved, which makes sense as he doesn't do overheads much... and throwing this around with basically no 'skill' is very impressive.

Yeah but no leg drive = no lift (or at least it is for most people).

I think this guy has legs, but not the use of them.
