Pilates and weight training?

Post by Glinda on Sun May 05, 2013 11:03 pm

Hi all,

Can anyone comment on how to incorporate Pilates (short floor sessions) with weights? The workouts can be intense but it is a different way of moving. I'm wondering if sessions should be on different days?

I'd say try it and see. Depends on

1. what is fatigued by the pilates and by how much
2. what you're doing with the weights on that particular day
3.which one you're doing first
4. which will to some degree depend on how much your base strength is affected by one or the other...
5. Fatigue 'the day after' from weights might actually affect your pilates more than if you lifted almost directly beforehand (and vice versa)

Just a few things to consider. Also, if you're picking up a new strenuous activity you might want to cut back on your lifting as well--stick to a few compound movements (bench, pullup, front squat, sumo deadlift), sets below 5, etc.
