I want my bike!!!! :why?!:
Not the old, one-gear-only, low, flat half-the-time piece of rusty cwap I'm spending hours on every week! :wth:

/rant

It's also worth remembering that HIIT and steady state has two different values.
HIIT makes your heart stronger, more powerful, and steady state increases its size. Also, low intensity is good for re-/pre-hab and recovery.

I don't really do enough HIIT, but that's because my recovery is pretty lousy.

If you really wanna know, I've been an excellent person tonight, first doing a bunch of homework, then my GB workout, then going for a run (~5km, barefoot style (though wearing my Feiyue... I need some new ones).
On the way home, I found a wallet which I handed in at the local police station, and I said I didn't need a reward, in case the wallet's owner would like to give me one.

There were a few sprints included. I can actually run faster than I thought... :zaru:

Now, stop punking me!

Wow look at Bissen go.
Is your real bike back at home?
How long will you stay in Japan?
You should have a decent bike if you use it a lot.
How much are decent bikes in the land of the rising sun....and the land of the tall blonde hair gal....with the funny shoes?

Someone should buy you a bike, or perhaps make you earn one by doing one simple little workout...

Let's all pick on Bissen (but only because we love her)

Post by Bissen on Wed May 15, 2013 8:45 am

Hey there, Phil!
Yes, my "real" (own) bike is in Denmark. My lovely red and silver Avenue bike :( One like this, just red/silver.

I'm in Japan for a little over 5 months. Going back to Denmark en mid-late August.
I bike a fair bit - but not compared to you ;)
Bikes are actually pretty cheap - but I don't have a lot of money, and daily living is super expensive, especially when you wanna eat as many veggies as I do

You saying you'll buy me a bike, Phil?

I forgot about my own thread...

Dave wrote:Never in person though, eh beautiful?

ALWAYS in person, actually.

You wanna hear a few stories?
I'd taken a job as a assisting coach on a English-teaching soccer/football team with young Japanese children. I was wearing black shorts and t-shirt, and with my not-very-feminine appearance (in every way) and short hair, I was asked if I was a boy. That's pretty common.

I answered "no", to which they looked at me in disbelief and then asked if I was an "okama". I didn't know the meaning of the word "okama", so I looked it up during the break... only to get utterly depressed!

Definition of "okama": 1) pot 2) volcanic crater 3) (one's) buttocks 4) male homosexual, effeminate man, male transvestite

Day ruined, and the decision made that I didn't like the kids!  :nunchaku:

Another time was when I was on grocery delivery tour, helping out the people I lived with after finishing school.
We delivered at a camp, and when I got out of the car, I heard a group of young boys saying "Ah, ikemen!" (Ikemen = handsome guy). Then they approached me and one said "hello" in their twisted Japanese way, to which I answered "hello". The boy's face expression changed as he said "ah, onna da!" ("oh, it's a woman!")

They didn't speak to me after that

Post by Bissen on Wed Mar 26, 2014 9:29 am

Aw, guys

Not sure I'll log... maybe. I have a feeling I won't really get it done.
Ring work has actually been on hold for a while, and definitely right now as I strained my right elbow (like I did previously).

Thinking of getting back to the rings. Was out of training for a few months due to life and other nasty stuff. Got back to it about a month ago. No HIIT, and cardio is pretty much limited to bike rides to and from school.
Putting a lot of energy into the horses and our two youngster doggies. I found myself considering studies as a hobby, rather than my future (LOL).
I have a little over a year left of studies, unless I choose to go for a graduate degree. Can't think of anything I'd wanna study...

I have thought about becoming a horse chiropractor or something. I'm very East and West in my hobbies. Horses (behaviour, health, hooves, nutrition), fitness - and I'm thinking of taking "digital design" as my supplementary/minor studies.

I have no concrete wishes or goals for my future, so I'm just trying to go with the flow, do and put energy into what I enjoy.
I think it's because I've spent too many years in misery to be all sensible and do stuff that might aid my future income and whatnot

Appreciate it!

I'm having fun with the horses, really. I've gotten a new bout of interest in working with them. Maybe because I am now able to think about something other than myself. My personal problems (as in, the problems I've had with myself) are greatly reduced - my parents' problems are my parents' problems and nothing I can fix, so I fix/do what I can.
That's something I've learned, but holy crap, has it taken me a long time to get to this point.

Actually, this year it's probably 10 years since I started getting really ill. What a waste of life... hopefully I'll be better armed for the next bouts of crap in the future.

No workouts being done... lots of movement - and I dare say my natural squat has gotten pretty darn magnificent! - but horses, fencing, hooves, grass, pathologies, exams and life + strained elbows threw me out of it.

Meh...

Dad not doing so hot at the moment. It's like his body doesn't want to abandon the prednisone  :geg:
I have exams up in a month, and there's one class I dread beyond belief. Actually, I'm anxious about it. (Japanese) international relations. It sucks because it's all about (foreign) politics, and if there's anything I dread as much as maths, it's politics.

Just hope I'll pass...

Prednisone is difficult to quit once you've been on it for awhile, your body stops producing its own cortisol. It can be a long process to get back to normal. I hope your Dad feels better soon.

And don't worry, you're a smart girl. You'll pass!

I know a couple of people that have been on it for years. Eventually if it's long enough it looks like you really can't go off, your body forgets how to make it's own corticosteroids. From what I've seen it mostly causes problems with blood sugar control (causing diabetes sometimes) and arthritis. Really I don't know what the doctors can do to wean you off.

My dad had a period of heavy diabetes. He'd been ill and tired for quite a while, but he and my mother had decided, nonetheless, to take a "holiday" in Italy.
Had to go home early because he was ill. Got his blood glucose checked, and it was about 45 (mmo/L). Normal range is 4-8

Definitely seems like his own production has stopped completely (or almost). He's super scared about the arthritis (I think you're at risk for osteoporosis, but don't quote me on that) which is why he's constantly pushing to get off it. He must have been on it for over 3 years now; in the beginning, massive doses.
