Gatorade etc sports drink while training?

Post by Guitar_maniac on Sun May 19, 2013 12:04 pm

Bought homemade gatorade powder last night and made one to drink while training. Kept my thirst away really good, better than just plain water during training. I've allways thought that these things very pretty much like sodas to a degree, but guess i was wrong?

No, you were right. I drink a litre of water with 1 tsp of glucose and baking soda instead.

Yup, I do glucose intra-workout, too. Either just some fast food-carbs (white rice is obvious, here), or an actual sports drink. In Denmark, I use pure glucose, cos it's cheap, add a little salt and also whey.

My recovery and energy is SO much better.

Do you have Gatorade in Japan? what is it called? "gatarado"?

I can't believe how many people advocate sport drinks in the "Nutrition section" but not in the "Training section".

Cyco. knows what I'm talking bout. ;)

I just buy some random, cheap sports drink powder. Dextrose and sugar. Gets the job done. But really, we're talking 10-20g per session. Close to nothing. It's just as much for making the protein water more tasty (I use plain whey).

I just make sure to eat pre and post workout.

Re: Gatorade etc sports drink while training?

Huh. Interesting conversation. The only time I have regularly used sports drinks was when I was last working field work in the summer (8-10 hour days in 28-35 C). I'd buy a can of the powdered stuff and one of my water bottles would get a gatorade mix so as to help with the electrolyte stuff.
But one guy, who drank nothing but gatorade out on the worksites had some serious "plumbing" issues after a few weeks of this.

For my workouts, I just use water and then maybe have an orange or a banana after.

Gatorade - BAD
High Fructose Corn Syrup - BAD

If you are eating properly and have a good pre-workout meal, unless you're hitting it hard in the gym for many Hours, all you need is water. Eating a banana before the w/o is also a good idea.

You don't NEED sports water - but it really can make a difference in your training/recovery. Especially if you train a lot.

I get a good deal on powdered coconut. Makes 25 litres for $10.
I like to drink it when it's really hot and sweaty. Well, that's not totally true. The totally true is, I like to drink it!

I'll have to try some of these drinks.

I personally use 1/8 tspn of iodized table salt with 100mg of potassium and dissolve them into about 2 quarts of water. It's amazing how quickly I perk up after drinking a glass or two.

Hey guys, you may want to check out this pre-workout drink protocol I found a while ago:

https://www.gymnasticbodies.com/forum/topic/9580-perfect-workout-nutrition-2013/

There are a few steps involved and a few conditions you have to know about before you try. Pretty interesting stuff.
