He seems to think he's a SEAL because he can mime shortened MA moves without power (not even miming, his form sucks--looks like the tapout shirt-wearing mma wannabe in my school gym) while balancing on a glorified surfboard (paddleboards are actually cool, though, imo). He almost falls over a few times, too. And  @ his supposed 'tai chi' at 1.30.

And by 'they' I'm referring to him and the guy at the top of this page.....

The comments =
Maybe we should start a new thread for the 'this ISN'T cool' videos.

Hahaha I never saw that post before!  Yeah you're right about the shortened movements.  He's training his balance, sure, but the specific transferability of that to the actual skill is admittedly questionable at best.  It still would be cool to try it.  :toothy:

There's nothing wrong with balance training for MA, imo. Especially for the balance-centric 'soft' arts. Practicing while on a slackline, standing on the ends of posts, etc. is all great stuff (and very old).
However, striking requires a solid base. You can't 'root' yourself on a surfboard, especially if your form sucks, and that guy shows it

I still like the concept, but he did it (imo) all wrong. He should have been going VERY slow and using full ROM. That's what I used to do on the vibration board at the chiro and eventually I got faster and faster. Slightly differnt type of balance required, and of course a differnt training result, but still I think it would work. Maybe not get faster at it though because the board will still be displaced by your movements.

I think that'd definitely make more sense--but--no way are you ever going to do full power blows, even of the 'shadow boxing' variety, while standing on a surface like that. And if you can't commit to the strike, what's the point? Slow kicks, etc. have their place, but building up to any kind of speed while unbalanced like that would be counterproductive, imo. You'd be training yourself to strike while isolating your limbs, without any power whatsoever....

This is a pretty cool vid. Shows just how darn EASY 'advanced' bodyweight skills are for a high level gymnast. Perfect body line on handstands even walking sideways, straight arm and feet-together L sit press to handstand like it's nothing, repetition roll+seated split+stalder press as a warmup, and so forth. Crazy. And while he's good, if you watch some of his competition videos he's really not that strong compared to the real monsters out there. The depth of competition in that sport is off the charts.

Just 'discovered' this guy: one of the strongest all-around gymnasts I've ever seen. Not many like this today, everyone's either a specialist or kinda mediocre (as mediocre as one can be at the world level).

And now, at age 37 (go to 1.00)

Done after 30 full HSPU. Effortless straight arm planche press to HS and the OAHS.

Guy has arms like a bb'er, too.

Some unreal handbalancing here....

He's one of the top 5 equilibrists in the world right now, some say he *is* the best in terms of skill. Tremendous strength and also precision, especially on one arm--note how he doesn't hesitate switching from one position to the next. Candlestick and full limber (reverse planche) are effortless and those are VERY high level skills.

What makes it even more impressive is that he's really thin and really tall (well over 6'). He can lower from OAHS to OAEL too, does it in another video.

Okay so this is possibly the craziest lift I've ever seen. Definitely in the top 5 or so (it's really tough to define that sort of thing).

A guy benches almost quadruple bodyweight.
With NO gear.
...Without legs.

It looked so easy, too, my jaw literally dropped at how friggin easy it looked. Apparently he's done 192kg in training (which actually is 4x bodyweight on the dot).

This is definitely something cool that I found--there's a gym out in Australia where just about everyone roundbacks their deadlift. And they're all ridiculously strong.

140kg x2x3 sets @ 55kg (has done 156kg in a full power meet)

155kg x2 @ 63kg

260x10 @ ~95

300x1 @ 90

And there's a woman there you roundbacks both sumo and conventional... vids only on facebook though.

While we're at it GreekPT emailed me and Mike this hilarious and awesome video today:
