Favourite Exercise

Post by Rix on Thu Aug 29, 2013 1:03 pm

Just was wondering if any of you have a specific favourite exercise. I think mines simply the pull up. Simple, effective and impressive.

Gotta be honest, it's the outdoor stuff I enjoy most (sledge,ax,shovel,88lb bags of concrete, carry heavy crap), but that's not very often, and it's more of a test of strength than a means to build it.

weighted double towel pullups!

If i had said the wrist curl, I would have gotten kicked out of here ;)
(my secret favorite is the fat bar wrist curl for 30+ reps)

I think there's a beauty to the push up and all of its variations. I know its a standard and beginner exercise, but there's something to mastering the form and being able to just do several reps at a time with perfect form.

My favorite to do? Squats. I'm good at them. It's lovely.

darn... Impossible to name. At one point I would have said a free-standing handstand, but I think that's my ego talking.

I would then say, diamond pushups, the universal aspect of it. They're fool proof, in hypertrophy and strength building. But they can get easy.

Now a days I am trying handstand pushups against a wall, as after not doing them for a long time I have found I barely do one. Maybe I've just gotten heavier...

I was only ever able to do them for one month in my life, and now that i remember, I think I found myself a new goal to work on, but I'm gonna try to do freestanding handstand pushups. See how that goes.

lean all the way forward until your hands are at about hip level... maintain that lean throughout the whole movement while holding a leg high in the air... super difficult lol

Haha whooa, that's real weird man. Thats like a close grip planche pushup. I always understood putting your face or forehead on the diamond was the proper technique. I'm gonna try your way after work.

that's a different variant and hits more triceps

regular diamond is simply a close grip push-up

Yeah man I LOVE it. I come out of 100 for time and I feel like a maniac. I usually do 100 for time on one of my breaks. Takes about 15 minutes, my top was like 7-8 minutes, we had a competition a while back on the other site.

Front squats at this moment. High rep diamonds sounds great but I think they would wreak havoc on my wrists.

Oh they will if youre not careful, but next time force your fingers into the ground and the pressure on the wrist is drastically minimized.

Med ball or basketball pushups might be easier. Also close grip is just as effective without making a 'diamond' shape with your hands.

Skwatz. Cause I'm pretty good at them. And they're awesome. There does come a point of diminishing returns though (for athletic performance).

Dom bumped it, eh?

Still deadlifts and one arm chins over here.
I'm beginning to get my love-hate relationship with pistols back, though.

And I need to solidify my full front lever by the end of the month, so I have the feeling I'll enjoy that move once I can really dominate it (it's fairly boring for me now).
