Thanks, everyone, for the encouragement. Cheesedog, I like your quotes (from Thucydides and Aristotle). Both fit my situation: I need COURAGE to again establish a HABIT of regular exercise.

Update

Post by 98poundweakling on Wed Nov 19, 2014 7:19 pm

Hi, guys. Thanks for your encouragement and support. Lots (too much) going on here. In cardiac rehab right now. Good program. It's helping a lot. Since the beginning of Great Lent in March, life has been full - and that has equalled stress on the ol' system. After a minor heart attack in June (so they tell me), two weeks of severe angina, and two operations to place two stents, I am having a hard time finding my balance. Too little sleep and exercise has resulted in a constant state of fatigue. I would like to change that. C rehab is helping me get back on track. I hope to bring some good news in the future.
Please keep moving!
Best to all of you!

Okay. I'm back. You all have advertised just the right challenge for me at this point in my recovery:

Jan 1 - 50 squats
Jan 2 - 100
Jan 3 - 100
Jan 4 - 100

Hoping to make a habit of this. It already feels reeeeal good, especially my aching hams and glutes. :whew:

Post by 98poundweakling on Fri Jan 23, 2015 7:57 pm

just posted my squats. YTD 20 points. (Haven't finished today's yet!)

Also in my daily routine is (hallo, Dom!) amassing 10,000 steps per day, using my Fitbit as tracker. I hope visit the cardiologist and diabetes specialists less frequently. The diabetes (Type 2) is rather new news. I'm still having a time getting the glucose levels down - and my spirits up…

The squats and walking are being a big help right now.

Pangs of conscience

Post by 98poundweakling on Tue Feb 03, 2015 7:23 pm

Cheesedog wrote:Also chromium picolinate, fenugreek, and Vitamin D.
Cheesedog, how do you know so much? Thanks for sharing from your treasure trove of health knowledge!

YTD for 100 squats per day: 30 points (4 days not reaching total). My excuse for missing 2 days: Snow shoveling. Our four goats are very willing helpers, even if they put what I removed right back in the path.

I'm still doing my 10k steps per day. I usually acrue that much in my Alltag with no extra effort. If I don't I head down to the treadmill in the evening.

After a do-nothing-weekend, I have to get into a regular schedule of exercise for whole body. Even with just one day of no exercise, I feel it in my ticker. Fueled by my conscience having just seen "The case for keeping a training log" I'm going to have to commit to some sort of plan.

To make it through the winter, I've been doing a push/pull/squat routine. Simple and effective as you want it to be. Check it out in my log when you get a chance.

Cesar wrote:what does your training consist of at this time, Friar?

Hey, Cesar! Thanks for asking. My training at this time is a mix of all the old stuff I have done: CC (including the Trifecta of Bk2), Pavel's Super Joints, some free weights (I'm now learning bench press, for the first time), some yoga poses - whatever gets me limber, heart pumping and using all the muscle groups. I'm still struggling to get going and make a habit of this. I think I'm on the way, but don't want to jinx it by announcing any grand plans.

The most difficult thing right now is being honest with myself about who I am, where I'm at, and where I'm going. I'm only doing about 50 squats in my session. I hope to get it up to 100 soon. 10k steps have had to wait a bit, due to recovering from Achilles tendonitis and possibly some fluid retention in the right foot. Physical therapy was very helpful with the tendontis. I see the doc tomorrow for the other issue.

My heart health and, since November, diabetes type 2, are so directly affected by my not moving. After 10 days of exercise, I am already feeling much better.

I appreciate the support I get here from you and the others to keep going. Muchísimas gracias!

Hi, Bill! Thanks for your support. All that sometimes tedious stuff in the beginning of the CC course has payed off later for me. It has trained the right muscles for the right job. When I get to a higher step, the right muscles click on to do the skill efficiently and economically. I'm keen now to check out CC3, which, I hear, has more acrobatic fun. I'll let you know when I break my first bone doing a back flip!

On to my busyness:

I'm trying not to beat myself up for getting in only 3 exercise sessions. I say that after again 5 days with nada to show - and I feel it. Sure, humidity is hard for me, but my heart keeps sending messages that I need to move (more than walking) at least every other day. I hope to show better results for this week.

Good energy and strength to all!

Here it is again, as late as a gift for last year's Christmas! Okay, so this is just for me to keep record - uh, 6 weeks' worth. I confess, when I sit down at the computer, I'd rather watch Empire than type in my training log!!!

Steps walked are marked with "k" for 1,000 steps; duration of workout sessions, not including walking time, is marked in bold.

I'm finally picking up some steam AND beginning to run. I haven't run in the last 8 years. I was hating it because it did not feel good. After discovering it was my heart condition and doing walking therapy, I am getting back to an old normal. Not bad for an ol' guy, eh?

a PS and a link

PS I'm now carrying a 5 pound iron disk in each hand while doing Hindu Squats, inspired by this guy's workouts. Rather a long video; the interview at the end is notable! Next, I'll try his plyometric Hindu Pushups.

Last Week

Post by 98poundweakling on Wed Sep 23, 2015 3:45 pm

Hey, everyone! Training efforts for 13 - 19 September follow. I am disappointed that I got in only 2 workout sessions. Informally, I also got in two days of Pallet Transfer Workout, moving cartons of boxes from one pallet to another, with some fun twists involving lifting them practically overhead, climbing other loaded pallets while carrying them, and finally stacking them. Cartons weighed 40#, 27# and 18#. My walking is steadily increasing. I find it addicting.

Last Week

Post by 98poundweakling on Sun Oct 04, 2015 2:59 pm

Last week's amazing efforts. I overdid it. My CNS have been screaming that I will now be paralyzed! My OCD is manifesting itself. Have to get my balance... The impending danger is that I want to learn to do a backflip and front aerial. Wish I had some crash pad mats... I blame it all on walking. I'm totally addicted.

This week was a little more balanced. Feeling good. I hope to begin working toward some goals now.
