Friar,
I recently bought a Fitbit chargeHR and use it daily to track my steps. My daily goal is 15k which I meet daily and often go beyond it. How do you track your steps?

some motives for walking

Post by 98poundweakling on Sun Nov 22, 2015 2:27 pm

Hi, Cesar! I use a fitbit "zip" wireless tracking devise. I just clip it onto my hip pocket and check it in the early evening, to see how much I need to make my daily goal, which, right now, is 17k. Then I go out late evenings and walk around the reservoir here to make up the difference. I find the walking quite addicting. By being consistent (since last January) my daily average has gone from 7.5k to 17k.

A few months ago I was receiving some physical therapy for foot stuff. I noticed that my therapist was wearing a fitbit, so I asked here about her daily average. To my surprise, she said somewhere between 22k and 24k per day. I said, surely not just caring for patients here in the clinic! Her reply: I have three kids at home...

The fitness benefits of having children! :laugh1:  XD  My hats off to you, Papa Cesar! :hatsoff:

Catching Up

Ouch! but thanks, mate, I needed a jab right about now... I'm plenty active, but not with as much exercise as I'd like (read: need). That's my pattern: busy with too many things, allowing regular and goal-oriented exercise to fall by the wayside. Lately, I find myself doing a lot of lumberjacking here on our property (19+ acres). We just took down about 30 giant Norway maples, and a whole mess of other sick and dead trees, on account of the N maples. Great fun and great exercise, but I miss having a time dedicated to some fitness goals, working out in the good ol' garage attic gym. Being 57 YO and continuing to think I can always start tomorrow is not doing it for me. I would like to give y'all here a better report sometime. In the meantime, here is the last month's records:

Steps walked are marked with "k" for 1,000 steps; duration of workout sessions, not including walking time, is marked in bold.

Swings

Post by 98poundweakling on Mon Dec 28, 2015 12:06 am

Had to quit the swings on Thursday for a couple of days. I launched into a set without warming up and my lower back said STOP!!! On Saturday I was fine again, thanks to some back bridging.

Steps walked are marked with "k" for 1,000 steps; duration of workout sessions, not including walking time, is marked in bold; KB swings are listed in sets x kg or #.

Just got my "Japan" badge from Fitbit for walking (this year) more than the length of Japan: 1869 miles. :D

Nice swinging Friar!

Bridges and deadhangs from a pullup  bar feel great after swinging.

I've been using Short Bridges with a soft shoe squeezed between my knees as a warmup to swings.  Just 2 sets of 5 explosive reps.  Really gets the glutes and hammies firing before swings  and feels great on the lower back.  Gets my body thinking about using the glutes during the swings.
