Some foods are better for you when cooked. Not sure about garlic, but I don't eat it raw - and I have no problems, physically speaking anyway.

Yeah, I cut the top off, soak it in olive oil and lemon juice sometimes, but my girlfriend does butter, then put it in the oven for half hour at 180 degree.

Raw garlic is difficult!  But it can be made easier by having a big mouthful of egg protein at the same time to absorb the intense flavour of the garlic.  I've done that on occasion with great success (nullifies the garlic taste ina big way), but not so much lately.

Garlic:

I posted about this in the onions thread, but if you want to extract the MOST allicin (one of the most potent antimicrobials...ever - seriously, there's evidence to suggest it's stronger than some prescription antibiotics), there's a way to prepare it to where you get like 10 TIMES the amount you'd get eating it raw.

Cut it up or crush it or grind a raw clove or 3, LET IT SIT for 10 minutes, and for whatever reason, the garlic starts producing a TON of allicin (like I said 10x the amount it inherently contained earlier), and then you throw it on whatever you're eating, cook it down a little, whatever, and you'll have a ton of allicin in your meal.
