Aaaaaaaand i'm back!

Post by Guitar_maniac on Thu Apr 03, 2014 7:21 pm

Sooo, sorry for the absence, what happened was:

I bought a new pc around the time i disappeared, my old one had Ubuntu and firefox in it. I installed win 7 on this new one. Since i didn't have my bookmarks etc on my new pc, when ever i came here, i just typed in phy on my addres bar in the browser, and it filled the rest. I tried googling it, but couldn't remember what was this? physical something.. and my old email was full of spam so i made a new one sometime before buying a new pc. In the midst of installing all old softwares, playing new fancy games etc i eventually forgot some sites i was in

Now tonight i updated my curriculum, logged into my old email account to send it to my new one as a backup copy, and there was message from Dave at PHYSICALCULTURE!, and now i'm here!

so what i've been up to?

I'm back at Scandinavian Defendo, after a brief stint at Shotokan Karate, Karate really wasn't my thing. I now appreciate Defendo more than before, it's simple and because of that, more effective faster. Just like our Sensei said:"We have only 65 in this whole art moves because in real-life situation you cant think like: "ok, now the attacker uses his left hand, now i have to...", those kind of thoughts will get you in bigger trouble." There's only two blocks! But they work, in every situation.

I also bought a gym card to our dojo, there's only one machine, leg press, but a lot of rubber bands, kettlebells, free weights AND gym rings (good tutorials on those will be appreciated :)). BW work has suffered a bit, i'm pretty tired after martial arts and gym, i do mainly compound movements: deadlift/standing military press/squatting as low as i can, hanging work has stayed with my training. It's just plain lazyness not practicing for example elbow lever before leaving the gym :DI really should.

My eating habits have improved, i have included quinoa, chia-seeds and maca to my diet. I also count what i eat to get more muscle and lose fat, it was frustrating at first, but now i've gotten a bit hang of it, trying to learn more about carbohydtares etc as i progress and get hold of the basics.

Cool! Defendo eh? My former kickboxing coach's father would train with us from time to time and talked about how good defendo was, but I never got to see it in action. What you say has my interest piqued. I like the minimalist philosophy when it comes to many things, including self defense.

Hope to see you start a log Esa. Peace!

Defendo is truly a great art, and it's origins are in Finland ;)We just had one of the guru's to do a seminar, and that guy could knock out an elephant. He had so much force behind his punches and kicks, technique was flawless, just watching him punch and kick the bags made it clear it wuold hurt.
He also does columns to the most popular martial arts magazine in Finland about training with BW and kettlebells, and videos on youtube. They're finnish, but in case you guys are interested his channel is:

There's lot more when searching Antti Nurmi on youtube, here's one good also:
