Did bench today with shoulder width grip, and i really felt it.

Post by Guitar_maniac on Mon Apr 07, 2014 7:03 pm

Kept my elbows to my sides as well, i tried to mimic pushup ROM. Stopped the bar little off my chest as always and my triceps/chest really were burning. I usually do reps with 90kg, but now i did with 70, and felt much better trainingwise on my body. I haven't progressed really with pushups, so decided to try that, since i can add little weight or take off.

I got strange looks as well, after my there was some young kid who just blasted away with the same weight, bouncing the bar up and down again, probably wondering wtf i was doing.

Sounds like a good way to bench. Mimicking push-up rom can't be bad.

From my experience (which is minimal) the wider I went the more weight I could push because of a short rom. To an extent ofcourse. I wasn't pushing 200kg with arms like wings spread out. But I went quite wide and pushed a couple of reps of 100kg quit easily. I went In closer and couldnt do that atall. But I always found 70-80 kg with a tie bit outside shoulder width was good. Elbows kinda diagonal.
