Kettlebell workouts with weight vest

Post by Rix on Sat May 10, 2014 7:42 pm

Is this an injury waiting to happen of good idea? Was just wondering because in theory it would be great to squat with the KB and vest combo plus it would give the bodyweight exercises a bit of umph. But I get a feeling this a sure way to an injury with all the different centres of gravity flying about and the ballistic nature of kb's. Yay or nay?

Thanks.

Don't see why it would be an issue, but don't see why you would do it (with swings, snatches etc.) either.

Double kb front squats with a weight vest would be fine, though. If you did complexes of clean + push press + front squat with the vest, it shouldn't be too hard to control, and the extra weight would actually be doing something, in terms of adding resistance for your legs.

If you were mixing up BW exercises with KB exercises it should be fine. No reason for you to expect an injury unless you're coming from a background of very little exercise experience.

Yeah suppose so but I am coming from a shoulder injury. Tendonitis. Maybe I'll give it a go after a few more months back into training.

Ah in that case just make sure not to overload with volume and intensity and make sure the vest allows full ROM at the shoulder.
