need some general help

Post by kc5wqy on Mon Jun 30, 2014 5:01 pm

hey guys if you read my post on the introductions then you know some of my physical problems, since 2012 I been riding a recumbent trike at my dr recommendation, im not a serious rider, when I hit hills instead of powering up it I go for my granny gear, but I have gone from cruising the neighborhood a couple of miles a day to doing 20 to 30 miles a day, using my trike instead of my truck for 90 percent of daily running around, my legs have taken shape and now the best looking part of my body lol, a while back I picked up a suspension trainer, all im doing is like suspended push ups, overhead tricep extensions, suspended bicep curls, standing suspended planks, and some isometrics, mostly just hanging off a pull up bar, 2 1/2 to 3 months ago I couldn't hold my own weight for more than a second, but now I can hold for over 30 seconds and get about 3/4 of the way up, im needing help with abs, and core, I cannot do sit ups or crunches, I have a really hard time getting down and up off the floor, im male 46, 5'11 265lbs, multiple health and physical problems, and do walk with a cane on a good day, I found lots of modified exercises that works for me just not many for the core, any help is appreciated

I removed the double topic.

I'm thinking about some solutions for your problem.

Some hanging leg raises come to mind as a first thought and maybe some modified bjj grappling/ tumbling exercises. I do some of them as a warm up for TGUs, they're pretty good. At some point you have to work, getting down and up of the floor, that's pretty essential.

Maybe you can modify some of them ^^^

most of what im doing now does involve core to a point like the over head tricep extensions, when i straighten my arms out it forms a plank, and then the suspended planks and a few others revolve around the suspened planks, i also try to do leg lifts when im hanging can only get 2 or 3, and i try to do as many partial pull ups i can, im collecting material to build a dipping station, not sure i can do a dip but i will try, just looking for other ideas of simple exercises that'll work the core in someway, the goal is to work my way into being able to do real workouts

planks are probably best, bench dips leads to regular dips and australian pull ups lead to regular pull ups

also when I started training again after injury after couple sets of australian pull ups gave me abs soreness the next day, you can be sure a lot of bodyweight exercises will strengthen your core and then you can add some specific core moves

Lots of good suggestions, although I would be wary of dips, especially of the bench variety.

Crawls! Plank walkouts/ walkups/ walks or elephant walks. That includes lots of work for the shoulders as well.
Kneeling one handed strict presses might be an option too, they do work the abs.
Plus you can do some sort of vacuums, sucking your gut in, exhaling and imagine pressing your belly all the way back to your spine. You can do this standing and lying on your back.
stomach vacuum
Dave is right about dips, I'd be wary about them.

^^They're a bunch of similar exercises that you find under the names. Sometimes the naming isn't even standardized, so you find the same exercises under different names or different exercises under the same names. I however prefer the walkups: Getting from a plank position down on the elbows an up again. And the walks: In my case I crawl in a plank position over the floor in the hallway, dragging my legs behind on a sliding aid.

^^ I should get my butt down a bit

^^Walkouts are the last exercise

BTW these are old videos, don't assume I could lift my present weights back then. I'm beefier now, gained 10 - 15 kg.
