Properly Embed YouTube Videos and Pictures Easily, Signature

Post by Dave on Sat Dec 15, 2012 4:24 pm

I see some members posting youtube links without embedding. Embedding is very easy and I will show you two easy ways.

1) Choose the red "POST REPLY" button instead of simply using the quick reply field and you will be given an additional selection of post options, including the following button:

Simply click on this button and then paste the video url into the field that comes up, then click OK. This will embed the YouTube video into you post instead of merely showing a link.

2) Type your YouTube tags in manually like so:

Code:
[youtube]video url[/youtube]

Both of these methods will give you this:

Instead of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjBOlg4w7JY

NOTE: When you put the YouTube around the above url, the forum will automatically convert your link behind the scenes into this:

Code:
[flash(425,350)]http://www.youtube.com/v/TjBOlg4w7JY[/flash]

Quick update:

A lot of people are still having trouble embedding their YouTube Videos.

Make sure you get the right link

When you have just uploaded your video and YouTube tells you "your video will be live at ____________" DO NOT USE THAT LINK!!!

Instead, open Video Manager, and click on your video from there. Use the link that comes up then (and notice that it is DIFFERENT than the one YouTube just tried to give you!) The link that has "youtu.be" in it is often problematic, or has been in my experience.

I found that if you do the same thing you say, and just use everything behind the
" = " sign, it works also.

Dave, what I would like to know is how you guys put a link in to something and put your own title on it. Like in your sig line where it says
My Training Log
And how do you get it in the middle. Like in my sig line everything starts on the left side even though I put it in the middle when I made it.

Put the link behind the "=", and put the text between the two "url" tags.

Put the text between the two "center" tags to place the text in the middle.

True, but try previewing it before you post it and you will see that it coverts automatically to include the whole url.

My sig, for those who want to reverse engineer it (note the use of multiple tags around a single line of text):

Code:

I've tried editing posts and embedding URL, but looks like you can't embed again once posted.

Thanks Dave -I probably should have asked

Doesn't look like its possible to embed using an IPad.

FYI - anyone having trouble embedding using an IPad, try on a PC

Step 1. Click the "Host an image" button.

Step 2. Click "Choose File" and navigate to the image you want to post.

Step 3. After opening your file, you will now see its file name next to the "Choose File" button. Click "Host it"

Step 4. Copy the second link. Use right click, because the "Copy" button does not seem to work properly.

Step 5. Click the "Host an image button" once more to dismiss the image hosting dialogue and paste your link to the desired location in your post:

Done deal.

If you are posting multiple pictures, every image after the first one will require Step 1.5, which is to to click the "Upload link" button to get back to the "Choose File" button.
