I offer you a web search full of support for the claim in the title. Some of the articles even claim that they are even more important than your nutrition.

Fascinating! I took a peek at the original article too. It is an interesting study. The identical twin work is really compelling. Not sure what the physiological mechanism is, but it warrants some serious attention!

Agreed! And there is also the self evident benefit of strong legs, i.e. being always ready to perform work of just about any kind.
