Not going backwards, pressing and pulling on

Post by itlives on Fri Jan 01, 2016 3:37 pm

1/1/16-

Woke up this morning with a thankful prayer for where I am in life. In the last couple of years I've gone through some major life changes. I woke up feeling I'm where I'm supposed to be. That's a good feeling!

I'm past the point in life where I can expect any major physical gains ( too many injuries) .  My acupuncturist says I should just maintain . That's not in my gene pool. I think it you're not pushing yourself, you're going backwards. I'm not ready for that. So, onwards I will go, although not at a frenetic pace.

Goals-
Strengthening my posterior chain , knees and , in general , legs.
Maintaining my health by living a Godly life.
Continuing to be an encourager to those in my life. I'm the go-to guy for people seeking free advice ( maybe I could turn that into a paid counseling- lol).
1/1/2016-
6 strap assisted 1- leg squats
5 wg pull ups
X 5
--------------------
DL's
120 X 10
140 X 7
160 X 7
180 X fail
------------------------
30 pushups - 20,10
------------------------
DL at 180 was a total fail. I think I just ran out of steam from grip to back side. The bar wouldn't move even when I took 10 lbs off.
The one leg squats take a lot out of me.
Happy new year guys and girls!

Happy new year Mike!  Good for you working the one leg squats.  They are most rewarding!  And I expect you will see gains this year because of your never say die attitude, regardless of age or injuries.

Mike, I have long admired you for your integrity and perseverance. That is more true now than ever. I am looking forward to seeing you figure out how to overcome the limitations of aging and continue to improve with age (then you can tell me how its done so I can learn from your experience! ).

Have you been stretching it out since?

One of my housemates just got back from a trip to Colorado to visit his wife (she is moving to Canada when all her ducks are in a row), and while he was down there he did a lot of chopping to help make firewood, and was complaining about his hand being very sore, he even had a brace or wrap of some kind on it.

So I had him come down to the laundry room where I put a bucket of cold water in the wash basin, and turned on the hot (or very warm) water and had him do about 30 seconds each soaking his hand in the cold bucket, then put it under the hot water, for about 5 minutes total, having him stretch and massage his wrist and hand in between applications.

After he dried off, I gave him some of the dit da jow Mike sent me a couple years ago. I have not used it all up, and love having it around for such occasions.

He said his hand felt quite a lot better after just these few minutes.

Hey Mr. Fact Checker! Remember, I live 30 miles in the country now. It was in the low 30's where I live. And cold is relative. 50f would kill most Hawaiians!
In that vein, I stick by my previous statement!

Another good start to the week!

Deck of Cards

Push, Pull, Squat, Core
All face card = 10 reps
------------------------------------
I love the deck of cards! With my formula of push - pull- squat - core, I can make it as easy or hard as I want. I use any variation of exercise as long as it fits the category. Of course iend up doing harder things as the deck progresses.

1/22/16-

Straps-
Push, pull
10 x 5
--------------------
DL's
100 x 10
110 x 10
120 x 10
130 x 10
140 x 10
150 x 10
160 x 7
170 x 3
-------------------------
Happy with this. Some of you will remember I do a 2- week fast at the first of every year. This is the last day . I did a Daniel fast, i.e. no meat. I did get whey protein or I would have lost more than the 4 lbs I did lose.
I can barely wait for some good red meat tomorrow!

WU - strap pushes and pulls

6 wg pull ups
6 RMM w/25's
10/10 40 lb. Swings

--------------------
Used my oximeter today. At the end of each set hr was 166-168. Guidelines say 100% for my age is 160. That's pretty close because I don't want to get the hr .much faster than where it was.

2/2/16-

Strap work-
Fly's and reverse fly's-
10/10 x 3

DL's
120 x 10
130 x 10
140 x 10
150 x 10
160 x 7
170 x 7
180 x 5

Moving up slowly on the DL's. At 180 I felt the first little pull on my hernia repair. That's when it's time to stop.

Been out with an abdominal tear. It's good now. Today was OK.....
I'd be afraid to do slams after something like that. You're pretty badass for an old dude :D :zerk:

I've been out almost two weeks. Even old guys heal if they just slow down (or stop- lol)!

For someone who was till very recently recovering, that is mightily impressive.

Hey Elethor, thanks for the kind words.

We're all recovering from something......if you're not, you will be.

Hey RaMan! It feels good!
I have been testing it for pain intermittently during he last two weeks. I don't know if abdominal tear is the right term. It was way worse than just a pulled muscle in that I could pin-point it and it was very painful.

Take it easy, I reinjured my ab tear (or whatever it was) a couple of times.  I know how painful it can be.
After all these years training you have a pretty good  body awareness and know whats needed.  I'm sure it will be fine  :)
