Specific goals

Post by Buckyx on Sun Feb 14, 2016 12:40 pm

I've used to have some like 20 pull ups or 40 dips but either never achieved them or progress was very slow and it led to frustration.
In few days it will be 1 year of training after last big injury and without any specific goals, just some general like get stronger in exercises I do(and overall) and learn elements, no time frame and because its hard to progress in everything at once I just focus on certain movements for a while and then on other while maintaing what I've got

Do you have any short term goals to help you moving forward?

Bent Press 48 kg kettlebell.  How short term that is will yet be seen, but I can already windmill both sides, despite reduced training frequency and volume.

I hit 20 fairly strict pullups a couple years ago, but the specific strength endurance to do that goes away pretty easily for me without staying right on top on pullups.  I find the 14-15 pullup/chin up mark stays pretty solidly embedded in my repertoire, though.  And that is all I really care about; what kind of strength can I develop that will stay with me even with only minimal maintenance?

My goal, lately, has been to maintain my strength, continually add new motor skills (martial arts have been pretty great for this, lately kali) and improve mobility, flexibility an overall function.  With this mindset, I tend to see training more as playing, and attitude that is harder for me to come by when I tell myself I have to do so many sessions, or reps, or sets, or so much weight by such a time, etc.

Everyone is different. Maybe pick something that is a weakness for you, and work on it as a goal to get it up to a respectable (in your eyes) level?

Right now I'm focused exclusively on fat loss. Later I'll go back to general strength training.
